Parks Baku

Dede Gorgud Park is one of the largest parks in the capital. It has all the conditions for recreation, a lot of greenery, an artificial lake and a modern lighting system. Dede Gorgud Park is also the venue for an open-air facility aimed at displaying the ancient history and culture of Azerbaijan. At the centre of the park, there is a monument to “Kitabi-Dede Gorgud”, made by the Honoured artist and sculptor Gerush Babayev.

The epos “Kitabi-Dede Gorgud” (‘The Book of Grandfather Gorgud’) represents an element of literature heritage reflecting the historical past of the Azerbaijani people. The epos is considered to have been written 1,300 years ago and reflects patriotism, heroism, wisdom, the historical past of the people, vision, spiritual values, customs and traditions of the Oghuz Turks.
